Short Star Trek Review and Fan Guide

Excellent film. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. See it.

Should you see the film?
* Trekkie = Yes
* Non-trekkie = Yes

Consider the franchise rebooted.

I've been slowly going through the entire Star Trek Voyager series with my oldest daughter. We're in season five. The Seven-of-Nine character is definitely my favorite!! I'm glad to hear the new movie is good.

Hmmm, my word verification is "nothero", which is remarkably similar to "nogero" which is the name of Moody's "Oregon" song when played backward. Nice!

I'm afraid. I am afraid that I may actually like something that JJ Abrams has done.

verification word: Rativall: simply an annual celebratory gathering by the rodentia of a local city or municipality.

Ha! Awesome. How was the crowd?

Seeing it again this weekend. I forgot to look for Randy Pausch's cameo and the tribble that shows up at some point.

verification "diess."

What Gollum hopes happens to the hobitsses.

I'm actually hearing this all over. People who were seriously determined to hate the new Star Trek movie are finding out it's actually fun to watch.

I can't wait for it to play here.

DK,

Tuvok! Bring me my whiskey and my cigarettes. Excellent. I want to go back and watch all the old series' again.

PB,

Trying on the first two, no danger of the third.

Ark,

Your fear is justified.

DW,

Good crowds. Saw it in Philly and in Portland now. Laughs and claps were roughly in the same places and same intensity. Both crowds gave a derisive laugh at the "GI Joe" trailer preview which I thought was appropriate. There was one idiot in Portland that kept thinking aloud and gave away one part (lucky guess). I shot him an irritated look.

MM,

Indeed. My Philly bunch had an avowed non-Trekker who saw the light of Baby Jesus in this film.

In General,

Saw it again today w/ Ladybug and MiniSnab. Came up with a few more criticisms on the 2nd go round, but I remain enthusiastic that this was a great film. I have the same feeling that I had after Seymour and I went to see the first Raiders of the Lost Ark movie.

We saw it last weekend, and I don't think I liked it as much as many. There were a couple of things that bugged me about the movie, and that left me with a luke warm review. That said, it was pretty good overall, and is worth taking your family to see.

It is a lot better when the theater is precisely 53 degrees.

I thought the movie was excellent. In anticipation for this movie, I watched the original cast movies and found that the "new" Trek's story holds up along them lines.

Star Trek's meat and potatoes was always on the small screen, where they can sink into some real sci-fi social commentary. The movies were more spectacle than substance- comparing the original movies against the new one, JJ Abrams version trumps the spectacle part and adds a passable story. The real strength of this movie was the witty dialogue and the surprising good acting.

I don't think the world is ready for meaty sci-fi, but this movie certainly entertains without taxing the brain, much. I am curious how the sequel pans out- I am absolutely hooked right now.
