AWESOME!!!!!

Wouldn't you know it, though...they played something from the early '80s.

Have you seen the "R30" video?

Ugh. Not my cup o' for the last 40 years. But I am very happy to see them well received as it makes me feel not so old!

MM,

Haven't seen it. I have several live videos of bands that I've never bothered to watch, so I quit buying them.

PB,

There are a number of classic rock fans who can't get into Rush either. I likes their tunes tho ;) I'm glad it was Colbert that brought them back to American TV.

I'm not sure whether or not I liked that they played Tom Sawyer. First, it's old! I haven't bought a Rush album since 92 or so. I thought they were getting too weird for me and I was curious. How weird would it be to be still playing, but have most people love songs you did decades ago? Is Rush becoming a Rush cover band?

Secondly, it's not their best old song. I would have REALLY liked to hear YYZ. Now that would have made Colbert's 'interruption' make sense.

I did like that they were so sharp with the comebacks that they made Colbert laugh ("they have their own names!").

I also liked that Colbert called 'on belay!' when he descended the stool.

Also: did you notice Leifson's 'groupies' on his pedal set?

Snab's favorite band on the best political satire program around.

It can't get any better than that!

Nuts! I wanted to post a link to one of Alex Lifeson's "Big Al's Tiki Bar" videos, but they've all been pulled, even from YouTube! Those are classics...and they also include some of Alex's famous pedal-inhabiting doll collection (apparently a tradition that dates back at least to the "Signals" period).

*Thpphhtt meh* ...rock and roll died pretty much in the 90s .... every once in awhile a band gets thru that isnt spoiled and bleached of creativity by the corporate mark of slow wasting death as of yet (but soon doomed.) Nurgle the god of chaos ...the rot and decay... is alive and well in the muzak industry *chuckles*

Live on Rush!

beats the hell out of Mariah Carey coming back from the banal limbo of obscurity to assail us with sugary slow "ant poison" once more

Eltigrez,

Rush seemed to be losing their rock n' roll edge from the late 80s, but I think they've definitely gotten it back again. Have you heard their "Feedback" EP (not to mention the last two albums)? I think they finally purged the "soulless technology" demons that almost but not quite took them over (though I did like "Presto" and "Counterparts" quite a bit).
