Friday Kool-Aid Blogging

Most of us remember the Kool-Aid commercials from the 70s and 80s where the giant pitcher of Kool-Aid busts through some barrier to refresh everyone's thirst.

Once we grew up, some decided to parody that character...

I like this one, but still don't remember that particular ad...

However I HAVE seen the Simpson's episode and it's great! It reminds me of the fun stuff of the 70's and Dr. Paezentini's (sp?)office (my orthodontist) in Milwaukie, which had a really psychedelic cartoon wallpaper mural that looked like it was straight out of the Beatles Yellow Submarine movie....

Are you sure that wasn't just the nitrous oxide, Ladybug? ;^)

I had never heard of drinking the Kool-Aid until I heard a commenter on a news show mention it. I asked my husband about it and he told me the whole story :)

Don, do you remember those silly sci-fi comics (kind of a parody of Star Wars using people we knew as characters) I kept drawing in our high school days? One of the ones that went over the best with everyone had someone chasing an enemy fighter, and when it looked like it was going to escape, the "good guy" pilot yelled, "HEY, KOOL-AID!!!"

Kool-Aid then yelled his trademark, "OH, YEAHHHH...," while exploding his way out of the enemy fighter, fragging it. This gave rise to a whole bunch of related jokes among my classmates.

I had a twisted youth...

You beat me to it, Moody. Yeah I remember those! The funniest parody I remember you doing was two kids on a plane shouting "Hey Kool-Aid!" The Kool-Aid man would burst through the wall with a "Oh Yeah!!" As the plane depressurizes, Kool-Aid man gets sucked back out with a "Oh Noooo!!", and then you hear him falling "AAAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!"

It still cracks me up to think about it! :)

LB and PB - Hippie art and Nitrous for all!

Leilouta - "Drinking the Kool-Aid" is indeed a rather dark form of metaphoric humor.

MM and DK - Those memories are what triggered the whole Kool-Aid Friday. Every time I see a spoof, I realize we weren't the only ones affected by the advertisers. So...thanks for memories...
